Rancid, Would you mind sending me an e-mail? I'd like to ask you a few questions off of the Wiki.
Judland - virtualsky_sk AT yahoo DOT ca
Hi Rancid, first i would like to thank you for putting this wiki up 8) The second thing is that i think you need to ban (unlimited? since the ip seems to be static) 184.108.40.206 from the wiki. (just see the changes in the link). --Hoehrer 08:03, 16 Aug 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)
I just grepped some things together from the wikinews main page and other locations. It's not as good as it can get (since i'm not that much of an HTML guru) but it will do for the beginning. BTW User talk:220.127.116.11 was me as well. --Hoehrer 00:53, 17 Aug 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)
PS: I like the border you added, i missed that one. --Hoehrer 00:54, 17 Aug 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)
i got a few ideas.. any suggestions? i was thinking of locking the front page and givin u and a few other users access.. but not sure.. ideas? lol --RancidLM 08:55, 18 Aug 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)
I dunno if this helps more than it is bad :-/ Visitors then cannot add anything without registering before (and this IS an existing problem). We could make a guest account with a fixed password for the guests (info on the login screen) and disable anon. edits. This way we can lock guests out when things get out of hand easily. --Hoehrer 09:03, 18 Aug 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)
ok how about this.. the front page is locked.. only a few people of my selection will be able to modify it.. all new content will go into "New Content" this will allow the "admins" or people with power to include what ever new content is added to the front page? ya no? im smokin crack? --RancidLM
Ohhh, i like the idea better and better the more i think about it. Especially since there still are the small editable areas (e.g. the News). But not enough to make a defacing. Werner out. --Hoehrer 00:05, 19 Aug 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)
Moved the image upload talk to the main discussion page.
scratch that nvr mind.. k done --RancidLM
Cool thanks 8) But now i've got a problem (unrelated to the database) with the way Mediawiki handles the Interwiki links:
Links without spaces work fine though, but I think i'll just use the old way :-/ Thanks anyway. --Hoehrer 02:16, 30 Aug 2005 (Pacific Daylight Time)
I'd like to be an admin. I've sort of tried to take the Game List under my wing and I'm currently changing the format so that we have one page for each game, like Darwinia and Lugaru and Uplink. I'm a linux gamer, played ET, UT2K4, Uplink, Darwinia, A Tale in the Desert II, and others. I've contributed as RJNFC and also as 18.104.22.168 and 22.214.171.124. I've run SuSE, Gentoo, Mepis, and played with a few other distros. I've contributed in minor ways to the wikipedia, wiktionary, and wikibook cookbook. I setup mediawiki at my work and played with it for a while. I've built a lot of computers, played a lot of games (windows and linux), installed a lot of systems, etc. I've found myself coming back to this wiki again and again because it's such a good idea, and I'd love to be an admin and take care of all the game pages and the Game List and such.

need a small fix
I'd like you to move the Battlefield 1942 install guide (the one I wrote :)) to the FPS category. Or just tell me how to do that. Mostly because BF1942 is an FPS game. Thank you. --3psilon 12:02, 30 October 2005 (Pacific Standard Time)
Currently we only have a 3D Shooter section, and the guide is already in it (see the bottom of the page). If there really is a need to make a difference between 1st/3rd person games lets discuss this in the talk section of the main page --126.96.36.199 13:04, 30 October 2005 (Pacific Standard Time)
Help with a CSS problem
Could you replace the following text in the file
<h1 class="firstHeading"><?php $this->text('title') ?></h1>
with this one?
<h1 class="firstHeading" title="<?php $this->text('title') ?>"><?php $this->text('title') ?></h1>
That would help me a lot. --Hoehrer 14:28, 22 November 2005 (Pacific Standard Time)
Modified.. Thanks :) --RancidLM 22:53, 22 November 2005 (Pacific Standard Time)

deleting pages still broken
Hello! Nice to see the site working again. Edits, moves, etc all seem to work, but attempting to delete a page yields the following:
A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "Article::doDeleteArticle". MySQL returned error "1364: Field 'ar_text' doesn't have a default value (webtools.dragonbyte.com)".
- If you are still having problems with this, I recently had to do a recovery from a db dump of my wiki and encountered the same problem. It turns out that when I did the dump from mysql, it dropped the default '' from the end of the fields 'ar_text', 'ar_flags' and 'ar_comment'. Once I restored these, it worked without a hitch. Hope this helps! --188.8.131.52 17:31, 19 June 2006 (Pacific Daylight Time)
- When I try to restore the defaults from MySQL I get an error stating that ar_text cannot have defaults... any ideas? does ar_text appear in more than one table?
i just noticed we'v been dugg.. i think it would be wise to find a image storage solution, i can't on my host... and i think with the traffic we have been doing we shouldn't be using ur school's.. soooooo im up to suggestions ..
--RancidLM 23:56, 9 February 2006 (Pacific Standard Time)
Honestly, the school will probably not even notice. They are on a lot of fiber, and everyone has a web page. However, I have the images setup so that we should be able to change hosting very very easily. I'm keeping a copy of everything on my home machine just in case, and the location of the hosting is present in only one place on this wiki. So, just let me know if you find a new place to host images.
RancidLM - I think you will probably need to take these images off of my hands soon. Do you have a place to host them? Email me at my username at yahoo.com.

Password recovery mailing broken
Hello. Well, getting a PHP error while trying to recover my password, and couldn't find any better place to report, sorry ;-)
It's something like:
Error sending mail: mail() [function.mail]: SMTP server response: 501 <Username <email@example.com>>: "@" or "." expected after "Username"
hey sorry for the troubles.. im trying to fix it in the mean time if u email me at rancidlm At gmail d0t com with a temp password i can change it for you so u can at least log in and change it to something else :)
Caching is limited for users (due to varying skins), but is used for non-users (like myself), it may have been that you didn't have it working for a while and thats what was cached, then you fixed the php variable. Eventually, the caches should refresh (on edit say), though purging pages manually will get the job done. Also, it would be very easy to enable multiple third party domains by replacing a strpos() function with preg_match() in parser.php to allow a whole set of domains. Good luck :) - Voice of All
